People in the past didn?t have to worry about elder care since there was usually someone in the family able to care for them. Will I have the time and energy to care for them myself or will they need in-home care services? It could be very time-consuming for you to try to take care of your elderly loved ones yourself.
You won?t have an easy time discussing your options with your older parents, but it?s best to discuss your options before the time comes when you?ll really need to. Once cooking their own meals or even getting dressed becomes too difficult for your loved ones, then senior care services may need to be called in.
You may want to let your loved one come live with you. However, because most adults have to work full-time jobs to support their families, this option is not the most ideal situation. In addition, most seniors want to maintain their independence and remain in their own homes. If your loved one is somewhat capable of self-care, then they may only need a home care service on a part-time basis instead of having one come in for eight or more hours each day. It?s best to research as many different companies as you can find, so you?ll be in a good position to make the best possible decision.
Assisted Living
For seniors who are still mobile and somewhat good at taking care of themselves, assisted living is a great option. An Assisted Living community combines housing, support services and health care to assist their aging tenants. Assisted Living residents have as much freedom as they like while still having access to support services whenever they need. For seniors who suffer from more major health conditions that require more detailed care, assisted living isn?t the best option.
Nursing Homes or Skilled Nursing Facilities
The professionals at nursing homes would be able to meet your senior?s needs much better if they suffered from more serious conditions. These communities provide all the same personal care services of an Assisted Living Facility with the addition of 24-hour nursing care. People living in nursing homes don?t have nearly as much freedom and usually have to share a room with other people. Nursing Home Care tends to be more expensive than other facilities due to the volume of personnel and expensive medical equipment required to meet patient?s medical needs.
