FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) ? Now it's David Dewhurst's turn.
The lieutenant governor addresses the Texas Republican Convention on Friday, in the wake of some delegates booing Gov. Rick Perry when he endorsed Dewhurst during his own convention speech Thursday.
Dewhurst is competing for the Republican nomination to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison with former state Solicitor General and tea party favorite Ted Cruz.
The two face a runoff July 31 after no one in a crowded GOP field won a majority of the senatorial votes cast in last month's primary.
Dewhurst has held the powerful lieutenant governorship since 2003 and is the mainstream Republican choice. But many tea party groups have branded him too moderate.
Also addressing the convention Friday is former presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who has endorsed Cruz.
