?

Two albums into their career, Portland?s Y La Bamba is becoming an audience and critic favorite across the East and West coasts. They perform at the ArtsCenter on Sunday, August 26th at 7pm with opener Birds and Arrows.?Tickets are $16 in advance, $12 ArtsCenter Friends, $20 day of show. Contact Adam Graetz at marketing@artscenterlive.org?for more information.

Y La Bamba have been warming listeners ears with songs that are fundamentally folk-based but carry a distinct Latin backbone. Spin magazine put it most succinctly: ?Delightfully tweaked Mexifolk brings Luz Elena Mendoza ever closer to being crowned the Latin-rock Feist.?? Their latest gorgeously crafted contribution to the already huge indie-folk genre leaves listeners with a simultaneously bright and haunting soundscape that Venus Zine describes as having ??elements of conjunto and bandoneon instrumentation and folkloric orchestration?a synthesis of Mexican influence and American execution.? Young as they are, Y La Bamba are by no means amateurs. The lush vocal harmonies on their second record, Court the Storm, have charmed the ears of long-time indie idols such as Neko Case, who lent her vocals to the title track of the record after hearing the band play at a local record store. On Court the Storm, these ethereal harmonies combine with compelling musical arrangements to create an indie pop masterpiece.

Concerts at The ArtsCenter are made possible by the support of Courtyard by Marriott, the Carrboro Citizen, North Carolina Arts Council, WCHL, and The ArtsCenter Friends.
