DIY Lotion Bars Keep You Moisturized

Lots of women and an increasing number of men are using moisturizing products. The skin on my hands tends to peel and flake off every Fall so I keep a non-scented hand lotion on hand. A friend of mine is a farmer and uses a DIY lotion on his cracked, weather beaten hands. Lotion bars are typically made from beeswax as well as standard lotion ingredients and tend to last a bit longer on your skin.

Household weblog One Good Thing By Jillee shares that you can make your own lotion bar by melting equal parts of beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil in a double boiler. Mix well and pour the liquid lotion into ice cube trays, cupcake pans, or Altoid tins. You can also add essential oils or other scents to the liquid mixture if you don't like the scent of honey and coconut.

The great thing about using an Altoids tin for this is that you have a built-in container. If the weather gets hot the lotion bar might melt a bit and then reform but it shouldn't leak and it won't make it any worse for wear. To use a lotion bar, just remove the bar from the container and warm it in your hands for a few seconds until your body heat softens it into a usable lotion. The lotion bar is the same thing as a lip balm so you can use it for that application as well.
