Indoor baseball pops up in Rayville - Richland Beacon-News

Richland Parish baseball and softball fans now have new way to enjoy their sport year-round.

Advantage Sports Academy opened last week at the old Brookshire?s site located at 816 Julia St., in Rayville. The indoor facility boasts four batting cages, pitching machines, T-stations and pitching mounds as well as private lessons for pitching and hitting.

The business was the idea of Stuart King and his son, Kyle. They, along with Logan Moore, provide the instruction staff at Advantage Sports Academy. Ashley Frost serves as the pitching and hitting instructor for softball.

?Really, it was an effort by my whole family,? King said. ?My wife, Dottie, has put in a lot of work as well as my daughter, Lara.?

?I grew up here,? Stuart King said, ?and I?ve been fortunate enough to coach a lot of great ball players. Our mission is to provide exceptional training and instruction to every male and female athlete who is looking to improve their individual skills. We intend to give each athlete a better vision for the game they love.?

King said Richland Parish has always been known for producing good ball players and good coaches. Opening the sports academy is his way of providing one more resource players can use to hone their games and get better ... or just enjoy baseball when it?s too cold or wet to play outside.

?It?s always 70 and sunny inside Advantage Sports Academy,? King said.

The facility is equipped to handle all ages of athletes, from T-ball players to high school players and adults who want to practice their skills.

?I?ve got a pitching machine that a seven-year-old could use and if the ball hit him in the head, it wouldn?t hurt him,? King said.

He also has state of the art video-aided coaching equipment which allows players to view their stance and swing, along with pointers on how to do better.

?Our goal is to enhance every athlete?s mental and physical playing performance,? King said. ?Our environment will be both professional and fun.?

The facility even boasts a room which can be used for birthday parties and other events. King is working in partnership with Foxes Pizza to make sure those events are memorable.

King hopes that in addition to providing instruction for young people who are serious about baseball, Advantage Sports Academy will also provide the youth of Richland Parish another form of recreation.
